How can a video platform be sustainable?
In the early days when the giants of today (like Youtube) were still forming, video hosting was prohibitively expensive, so the only option was to develop a centralized, hierarchical content network. But since then, peer-to-peer hosting has gone from "implausible" to "waiting for mainstream adoption." Individuals can host videos almost as simply as downloading a file or hosting a torrent.
YouTube seems to work just fine, why change anything?

In the time that it's taken for decentralized technologies to become real options, platforms that formed around hosting & displaying video (like Facebook and YouTube) have become powerful censorship and promotion entities--deciding behind closed doors what content is seen and therefore valued in order to optimize ad-revenue and influence. (Not to mention, they keep almost half of the ad revenue that your content generates.) This has created a restrictive perception bubble of what media is becoming in our modern digital age.
How can this be addressed in a new media platform?

When recommendations can be tuned to the users instead of advertisers, a platform can reward those who contribute to its growth by helping create content, bringing in attention and thus increasing the value of the media network as a whole.
