Self-Curation, Ethical Censorship, and Personal Responsibility

In light of a select few responses to our most recent video Love All Parts of Yourself, I have decided to dedicate some words to clarifying the purpose of PRCPTION Travel. It’s quite long-winded; for that, I have split it into three, hopefully digestible, parts.  This article is part of a series: part 1, part 2. Part 3: Self-Curation, Ethical Censorship, and Personal Responsibility “Love is all you need. Love = honesty. You can’t have honesty without unimpeded communication. The best way to improve love is to improve discourse.” – Matt Terwall, Treasurer of PRCPTION Travel, Inc. PRCPTION Travel exists of a new world in which communication is legitimately open and free. This means that not only people will have the right to share their voice, but also have the right to shut out another’s voice from their own personal reality. We are designing software to allow refined discernment in what you want to … Read More

The World of PRCPTION Travel’s Reality

jordanBlogLeave a Comment

In light of a select few responses to our most recent video Love All Parts of Yourself, I have decided to dedicate some words to clarifying the purpose of PRCPTION Travel. It’s quite long-winded; for that, I have split it into three, hopefully digestible, parts. In case you missed it, make sure to familiarize yourself with part 1 of the series. Part 2: The World of PRCPTION Travel’s Reality Society is largely affected by the media it consumes, and its media is predominantly distributed by its technological means. In today’s world, those technological means are all but monopolized in the form of a few select powerhouses: traditional cable/news networks, Facebook, Google, and Twitter. Media is public consciousness. Put in the hands of a few, it is a fragile and dangerous matter. In 2019, traditional news networks are more and more known to be full of lies and propaganda, while Facebook is known … Read More

Echo Chambers, Direction, and Purpose

In light of a select few responses to our most recent video “Love All Parts of Yourself,” I have decided to dedicate some words to clarifying the purpose of PRCPTION Travel. It’s quite long-winded; for that, I have split it into three, hopefully digestible, parts. Introduction: Controversy, Censorship, and Community As someone engrained in this project day-to-day, I have neglected to realize that what may be blatantly obvious to us may still remain in the dark for others. What is actualized as the fruits of my labor is not merely molded by my hands but colorized by beliefs & perception constructed over years of research and experience. While today we are a very small organization, operating on a near non-existent budget, choosing to employ today’s contemporary digital media as a means to encourage tomorrow’s human cooperation, most of our resources until now have gone into refining the exact how of today with which we … Read More

Introducing the Media Theater

jordanBlogLeave a Comment

Some exciting announcements & updates coming on the near horizon, but for now a quick introduction to where PerceptionTravel.tv is heading. Contrary to the style of these blog posts & newsletters for the past year and a half, PRCPTION Travel isn’t purely focused on the technology of building social video networking solutions for the world. We’re also keen on offering new ways for everyone to perceive the world itself through the media our network creates. (Fun-fact: this is where our PerceptionTravel.tv domain name originally comes from; and this is why the Perceptions.Live platform calls individual videos “PRCPTIONs”.) A portfolio of sorts, the new Media Theater acts as a way to sort swiftly through our best work since 2014. Simple enough for now, you can use the menu to organize our content by format (full-length films, web series, guerrilla documentation, etc) or intention (community gatherings, not-for-profits, etc). An easy substitute from browsing … Read More

Slow & Steady: Non-Profit Web Development

jordanBlogLeave a Comment

An update from the magical behind-the-scenes land (which is alive & well, for all intents & purposes, complete with larger-than-life mascots)! More has been happening than I sometimes remember to realize, yet the painstaking lesson in patience–that of creating larger-than-life systems of community interaction–persists. And, for better ignorance or for worse wisdom, it is not a task to be underestimated. Developing websites is a slow process What was originally estimated at a 1-month finishing time is now surpassing 2 months. It’s not our developers’ fault; it’s simply the nature of creating software… Asking a computer to do what you want it to, down to precise details, is a technological feat of humankind that I, for one, have always taken for granted. What may begin as a basic task, a simple copy-paste in some instances, turns into all kinds of unforeseen syntax errors and server issues that become an exciting challenge to overcome. …and that’s … Read More

Sustainable Intentions for 2019

jordanBlogLeave a Comment

Joining in on the social media fun of sharing new goals and objectives, this post will be an introduction to what we envision for the development of PRCPTION Travel this year. Recap: 2017-2018 2017 was a ground-breaking year. Through the hype of the cryptocurrency “bubble,” many people began to see new potential in the ways we interact, govern, and regulate ourselves as a society. We recognized that we could now generate abundance from thin air with digital currencies, consensus, and markets–not to mention play with new technologies that could keep governments and power hierarchies accountable. The blockchain enthusiasm of 2017 brought hope & inspiration to a new generation–including ourselves at PRCPTION Travel. Traveling through several regions of the USA, to central Europe, to three corners of Africa, 2017 was a year of field research and exploration for our organization. How could we integrate this new technology into digital media sharing, … Read More

A Musical Duo, A Community Hub, and A Colorful New Website!

jordanBlogLeave a Comment

Happy new moon! I normally release these posts around the full moon (just in case you hadn’t noticed :D), but this time around the flow of things needed time to catch up. And how glad I am that they did! Today I want to share with you several aspects of how the PRCPTION Travel vision ties together. Musicians & Artists It was exciting to get back into documenting talented musicians. This traveling Argentine couple came along and their celestial Andean music is just irresistible. From intense Yage ceremonies to simple afternoon jam sessions, it was a magical week of inspiration from these two at the Finca Del Origen in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Colombia. And now, they have a video to help find them gigs and opportunities in their travels! What if it were this easy for non-filmmakers to support artists and musicians? Community Centers This is an older … Read More

Introducing the PRCPTIONS.LIVE Platform!

jordanBlogLeave a Comment

Hi everyone! Brief update this time around: the PRCPTIONS.LIVE platform beta is now online! (hint: it’s not yet optimized for mobile, so please wait until you’re on your computer 🙂) On a personal note, it’s been a long, busy, and intense few months working on this amongst other media projects, from the east to the west coast of Australia and onward to Los Angeles (and now en route to Colombia!). Software development is quite the beast, I’m learning, and the funny bit is that what you see before you is still far from fully-functional! There is a long road ahead to enact this vision of cooperative social networking on a global scale. While I’m not myself doing the dirtiest of the work (shout-out to our dev and newest team member, Kusan), I find myself learning quite a bit: from in-depth CSS style designing to Git code management, to overall project management. I’d like … Read More

The Social User Experience & Creativity

jordanBlogLeave a Comment

What the internet of the last decade has encouraged us to explore: How do we perceive the world around us? And how do we transform those sights & sounds into mediums/media that others, friends and strangers alike, will have the chance to experience to some degree? If social networking has taught our civilization anything, it’s that we enjoy peering at and through the lens of others. But has that lesson come at too heavy a price? The price of having our curiosity satisfied has come at the will of these big companies mediating our social connectivity, restricted not only by their rules but by their interfaces. And the trouble arrives when we realize how in-the-dark we’ve been about the [lack of] capabilities using these social interfaces. In this post, I will explore this concept through some tidbits of what the PRCPTION Travel project has been up to in the past few weeks. … Read More

Features of a Cooperative Social Network

jordanBlogLeave a Comment

For over a year now, our brainstorming innovations trio has been studying and abstractly designing a method for people to collaborate, create, and distribute authentic “smiling people” media. From a systems standpoint, the primary purpose of this media would be to act as information: of people, of locations, of experiences, of stories. This is obviously a complicated endeavor for many reasons. Decentralized innovations such as Bitcoin and Ethereum (blockchain technologies) have been inspirational in the brainstorm, as well as taking what we learn from existing “past paradigm” platforms like Facebook or Instagram, which a majority of social users still use. “Social network” was never really our preferred term for what we were working on, but as the project begins to take shape we are seeing that this is very much what the PRCPTION Travel vision is designed to be–a cooperative social network. Cooperative Social Networking So what are the features … Read More
